This Privacy Policy describes how GoKarma ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our website located at gokarma.vercel.app (the "Website"), our Chrome browser extension (the "Extension"), and any related services (collectively, the "Services").

By accessing or using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, you must not access or use the Services.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you create an account using Twitter/X OAuth authentication, we collect the following information from your public Twitter/X profile:

  • Your Twitter/X username (handle)
  • Your Twitter/X display name
  • Your Twitter/X profile image URL
  • Your Twitter/X account identifier

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you use the Extension on x.com (Twitter), we automatically collect information about your engagement actions with other GoKarma members, including:

  • Likes you give to tweets authored by GoKarma members
  • Replies (comments) you post on tweets authored by GoKarma members
  • Follows you initiate for accounts that are GoKarma members
  • The corresponding tweet identifiers and URLs for the above actions
  • Timestamps of engagement actions

1.3 Information We Do Not Collect

We expressly do not collect the following information:

  • Your direct messages or private communications on Twitter/X
  • Your complete followers or following lists
  • The content of your tweets or posts
  • Your engagement with accounts that are not GoKarma members
  • Your browsing history outside of engagement actions
  • Your personal contact information (email address, phone number)
  • Your location data or IP address
  • Any financial or payment information

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To operate the karma economy: We track engagement actions to calculate karma earned and spent according to our published karma values.
  • To maintain leaderboards: We aggregate karma balances to display community rankings.
  • To verify engagement authenticity: We record engagements to detect and penalize reversals (unlikes, unfollows) as described in our terms.
  • To display the community feed: We use karma scores to rank and display posts submitted by members.
  • To identify GoKarma members: We maintain a list of member usernames so the Extension can identify which Twitter/X accounts are part of the GoKarma community.
  • To improve the Services: We may analyze aggregate, anonymized usage patterns to improve the platform.

3. How We Share Your Information

3.1 Public Information

The following information is publicly visible to all GoKarma users:

  • Your Twitter/X username, display name, and profile image
  • Your karma balance and ranking on the leaderboard
  • Posts you submit to the GoKarma feed

3.2 Third-Party Service Providers

We use the following third-party services to operate the platform:

  • MongoDB Atlas: Database hosting for storing user accounts and engagement records
  • Vercel: Website and API hosting
  • Twitter/X API: OAuth authentication and tweet embed retrieval

3.3 No Sale of Personal Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

4. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Services. Specifically:

  • Account data: Retained until you request account deletion
  • Engagement records: Retained indefinitely to maintain karma history integrity
  • Posts: Automatically deleted 7 days after submission
  • Karma transaction logs: Retained for audit purposes

5. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), secure database access controls, and authentication token security. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Chrome Extension Permissions

The GoKarma Chrome Extension requests the following permissions:

7. Your Rights and Choices

7.1 Access and Portability

You may access your account information, karma balance, and engagement history through the dashboard at any time.

7.2 Account Deletion

You may request deletion of your account by contacting us. Upon deletion, we will remove your profile information. Note that engagement records may be retained in anonymized form to maintain the integrity of other users' karma histories.

7.3 Extension Removal

You may uninstall the Chrome Extension at any time through your browser settings. Uninstalling the Extension will stop all engagement tracking. Your account and karma balance will remain intact on the website.

8. Children's Privacy

The Services are not intended for individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information.

9. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have data protection laws that are different from the laws of your country. By using the Services, you consent to the transfer of your information to these countries.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Services after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Privacy Policy.
